You will find one file:
DX7IIPRF.GET (GETIT 3.0 format)
This file will only work in a DX7II, or DX7IIFD with an
"E!" board installed.
Here's how it works:
1) Turn on your DX.
2) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button.
3) Press the "EDIT" button on your DX.
4) Press the #32 patch button.
5) Use the "Data Entry" slider to change the device
number of the DX to "1".
6) Press #14 patch button.
7) Cursor to "INT" memory protect, turn it "OFF".
8) Press the #31 patch button.
9) Cursor to "TRNS CH", turn it "OFF".
10) Cursor to "RCV CH", turn it "OFF".
11) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button.
12) Using GETIT 3.0, transmit DX7IIPRF.GET file to
the DX.
13) When data transfer is complete, press the
"PERFORMANCE" button.
Press the #1 patch button, and the LCD will display
"MIDI CHANNEL 1". Tap a few keys on the DX. Any unit in
your setup programed to receive on MIDI channel 1 will
"play".
Press the #2 patch button, and the LCD will display
"MIDI CHANNEL 2". Tap a few keys on the DX. Any unit in
your setup programed to receive on MIDI channel 2 will
"play".
The receiving unit will also respond to MIDI "VOLUME"
commands when you move the slider labeled "CS1", or a foot
controller connected to the jack labeled "FC2". This is
handy in recording real time volume changes to a sequencer,
or correcting "levels" of tracks already in the sequencer.
Neat huh? In the performance mode, each of the top 16
patch buttons will set up the DX as a master controller on
the corresponding MIDI channel.
You'll also notice that the DX calls up "PATCH 1" in the
receiving unit, each time you change MIDI channels. This
can be a real "pain in the butt" if your constantly
changing MIDI channels. I have four solutions for this
problem.
1) Disable MIDI patch changes in the receiving unit.
2) Keep the patch you're currently using in the first
memory location of the receiving unit.
3) Program the DX to send the receiving unit the
proper patch change. Try this:
a) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button.
b) Press the #1 patch button.
c) Press the "EDIT" button.
d) Press the #28 patch button.
e) Cursor over to "PATCH", and use the "DATA
ENTRY" slider to change "00" to "03".
f) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button again, and save
the edited performance.
Now each time you select "MID CHANNEL 1", your DX
will automatically change the patch on the receiving
unit to "PATCH 4".
4) Use Performances 17 through 31. These are
programed differently, to let you change MIDI
channel alone. Here's how:
a) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button.
b) Press the #17 patch button.
c) Press the bank selector button labeled
"1 > 32" to move upward through all 16 MIDI
channels, without disrupting the settings in
any of the receiving units.
Performance 32 is a quick way of getting out of the "OCTAL"
mode, and back into the "SINGLE" voice mode to re-establish
normal play. Try this:
1) Press the "PERFORMANCE" button.
2) Press the #32 patch button.
3) Press the "SINGLE" voice mode select button.
4) Play a few notes on the DX, you should hear only the
DX. None of the other units in your set up should
sound.
This setup is only meant as a convenient starting point for
customizing your "E!" equipped DX7II as a controlling
keyboard. I would suggest changing "LEVEL", "TRANSPOSE",
and "CURVE" settings to optimize the feel between the DX,
and any of the receiving units. These settings can be
accessed by pressing the "EDIT" button, then pressing the
#28 patch button once. Once you've got everything set up
just right, don't forget to "save" the performance.
